New Year’s Day Yoga Workshop

Sankalpa : The Power of Intention

January 1st, 2013 – 12:30-3:30 pm at One Yoga

Transitions in life – such as the New Year – awaken the human inclination for self-reflection. Any time we return to the eternal questions “Who am I?” and “How do I wish to live?”, is an auspicious time for yoga and spiritual inquiry. The New Years Yoga Workshop is an annual tradition of reflection and envisioning to support our inquiry.

This year we will explore the power of Sankalpa or “Inspired Intention”. It is not just any intention; it is a vow of heartfelt desire and willful determination. Sankalpa is a statement of guidance from our Highest Self, revealed through listening to our inner wisdom. By allowing us to see clearly what we really seek, Sankalpa empowers the mind to move from intention to realization.

The yoga tradition identifies four essential human desires that compel all our actions: meaning, prosperity, happiness and freedom. Through teaching, practice and self-reflection we will use these desires as the basis for exploring and realizing your Sankalpa. This vow becomes the force that brings our thoughts, choices and actions into alignment with our True Nature – empowering our ability to act while lessening our resistances, uncertainties and fear.

In this workshop, we will:

  • Learn the teaching of Sankalpa and the four essential human desires: meaning, prosperity, joy and freedom
  • Practice postures, breathing, meditation and chanting to support self-inquiry
  • Experience a guided process of meditation, self-reflection and journaling to reveal your sankalpa
  • Make a commitment of a 40 day practice to empower your sankalpa

For more information or to register, please visit One Yoga’s website.  Please Pre-Register, this workshop will fill up.  Pre-Regsitration discount ends Dec. 25th.

All the best to you and your loved ones this Holidays and New Year.

Yoga For Anxiety

Thurs. Jan 10 7-9:30 at One Yoga

In our busy, modern world, anxiety is epidemic – in many ways, it is our modern human condition. The physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral symptoms of anxiety can influence every aspect of our lives. Many people suffering from anxiety view it as a pathology, to be eliminated. Yoga offers a somewhat different view. Anxiety is a common response to stress when our lives out of balance- it is the call to change, which brings awareness to our imbalances. Yoga seeks to understand its causes and symptoms, so that we can work to restore balance and make meaningful change through skillful choices.

Anxiety is rooted in overstimulation of the Sympathetic Nervous System – our “Flight, Flight or Freeze” response. Yoga is one of the most powerful ways to restore balance to our nervous system. Through the use of specific postures, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation techniques and self-reflection, yoga is a holistic means to calm anxiety and restore balance and well-being.

In this workshop, we will:

  • Explore common causes and symptoms of anxiety
  • Learn Yogic practices for restoring balance and calm
  • Learn Ayurvedic lifestyle, dietary and self-care tools for anxiety
  • Experience a yoga practice specifically designed for anxiety
  • Receive resources to support self-healing and empowerment
