Yoga Nidra – Resting to Awaken

Summer Immersion – July 11-14, Minneapolis

The Summer Immersion is a special opportunity for immersive study and practice of yoga in the City. This year we will be delving into Yoga Nidra.

Yoga Nidra is simultaneously a tool,  a practice, a process, and a state of transcendent awareness.  Often translated as “Yogic Sleep”, it is a process of conscious relaxation, bringing awareness progressively through the layers of our being from conscious to subconscious to super-conscious.  The journey of Yoga Nidra integrates practices for balancing the physical and energetic bodies, deep relaxation, sankalpa (sacred intention), and using guided imagery and kriya to work with the subtle body and subconscious mind.  In working with with the deeper layers of our being, it is unparalleled in its capacity for relaxation, healing, transformation and empowerment.  On its deepest level, yoga nidra is dissolution of all limited consciousness into the infinite.

Whether your goal is stress relief, rejuvenation, physical / emotional healing,  removing karmic patterns, unlocking creativity or empowering yourself to manifest a dharmic desire, yoga nidra has something profound to offer you.  This immersion will explore:

  • What is Yoga Nidra?  What is its purpose?
  • The traditional stages and progression of practice
  • Awakening Sankalpa Shakti: The Power of Sacred Intention
  • Yoga Nidra as a tool for relaxation, healing, freeing the mind or manifestation
  • How to integrate yoga nidra into your life and practice

Living Yoga in the Kali Yuga ~ San Diego, CA Jan 25-29

Posted by on Nov 16, 2017 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Living Yoga in the Kali Yuga ~ San Diego, CA Jan 25-29

Living Yoga in the Kali Yuga:                       Embodying Power and Light in Times of Darkness    Jan 25-29 ~ Leucadia, CA

The ancient seers of yoga foretold of a coming age known as the Kali Yuga.  This “age of transformation” would be ushered in by dark times in which materialism, narcissism and fundamentalism would eclipse the clear seeing of our place and purpose in the greater order of the cosmos.  Fear, anger and suffering would pervade human consciousness – caused by continuing to live under the illusion of ourselves as separate from one another and the earth.    As with any transformation, there is simultaneous death and birth, destruction and creativity.   There is both potential for greater pain or true healing.

These times make the work of inner work of yoga even more important.   For transforming the fear, anger and suffering within us, and moving into the world from a place of clarity, purpose, compassion and love.  This balance between living in alignment with truth in the inner and outer world is known as Dharma.   From the Bhagavad Gita to Mahatma Gandhi, the yoga tradition has guided us on the path of living dharmic-ly through time of change and adversity.

In this special Five Day immersion, we will dive into traditional teachings and practices to awaken our power and light in the Kali Yuga.  This immersion is for those feeling called to to live a more meaningful and connected life, and to make a positive impact on our world.

The immersion will include:

  • Six hours of  daily yoga study and practice ~ 12:30-4 + 5-7:30 pm
  • Exploring the nature of the Kali Yuga and practices for these times
  • A guided process to reveal Dharma, the greater purpose of your life
  • Study of the Bhagavad Gita, living Dharma in times of crisis
  • Study of the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and the power of ahimsa
  • Teachings on how to move from inner awakening to serving the world
  • Daytrip to the mediation Gardens at the Self Realization Fellowship  over looking the ocean

The scene

The immersion will be held in Leucadia, California.  Located about 30 min. north of downtown San Diego, this area has been an epicenter of Yoga in the US ever since Paramahansa Yogananda founded the Self Realization Fellowship in the 1920’s.   Leucadia has retained its small beach town vibe amidst the rapid growth of Southern California.  Lodging is available at the Surf House Leucadia, located on Highway 1 just a few blocks walk to the yoga immersion and the beach, as well as restaurants and coffee shops.  You can also find plenty of options though airbnb or verb.  You’ll have mornings and evenings to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California.

Investment + Registration

$575 – Early Bird registration (paid in full by December 15)                                   $650 – Full Rate (must be paid in full by Jan 15)

FAQ’s

Q: Is Yoga Studies a teacher training program?  If not, how are they different?

A: No. Many students wanting to go deeper into yoga believe teacher training is the only option.   Yoga Studies and teacher trainings are very different programs and I highly recommend for prospective students to get clear on why they want to go more deeply into yoga, what their options are and what programs are most aligned with what they are looking for.

Yoga studies is a one of a kind program exploring the spiritual science of yoga.  It is designed to support each student’s life and yoga journey, through in-depth study, practice and guidance, individually and collectively.  Focusing on the study, practice and personal integration of yoga rather than learning to teach, allows Yoga Studies to dive more deeply into a holistic exploration of yoga. I’ve had many students participate in Yoga studies after completing 200 Hour teaching trainings, only to realize they had no idea how much of the larger science of yoga they weren’t exposed to in previous study – especially Ayurveda, Tantra, Meditation, Yoga history and philosophy, traditional texts, personal practice and how to integrate them in our modern lives.   By including collective and personalized study and practice, Yoga Studies also upholds the sanctity of the student teacher relationship, and supports each student’s life journey.  I launched Yoga Studies in 2013, and it has been a great joy and honor to continue to support many of the students from the first program to this day.

Teacher training programs are designed to teach people how to teach yoga.   Yoga Alliance is the main certifying organization for teacher training programs, with specific requirements as to what must be taught in a 200 Hr program.  In a teacher training, in addition to study and practice, students will spend a significant amount of time on professional essentials of teaching yoga (sequencing, cueing, hands on adjustments, the business of yoga, etc.).  For those seeking teacher trainings there are many options – Take your time to find out which is best for you and invest yourself fully.  I highly recommend two programs available locally through Devanadi Yoga and Yoga Sanctuary.

Q: What is the time commitment in terms of home-study and practice?

A:  For each master class there will be about 30-60 minutes of reading and/or listening – or about 4 hours/ month.  Home practice times will vary depending upon specific practices.  One advantage of the private sessions is to tailor practices to meet the students needs, specifically inclusive of their goals and challenges, how to best meet them within the time they have to practice.

Q: What if I can’t make every session?  How will I make up what I miss?

A:  The progression of yoga studies is sequential, building on previous study and practice to go deeper throughout the program.  You will achieve a manual  and syllabus for each portion of the program that clearly lays out the topics covered, and their corresponding home study materials and practices.  All sessions are recorded, and if you have to miss some, you’ll able to revisit the session through the recordings.

Testimonials from past participants

“Over the last 8 years I have had the gift of Ben’s Teaching.  The Yoga Studies program has been his greatest gift.  It profoundly shaped my life in ways I never believed possible.  I’ve been a yoga teacher for nearly a decade, and no other program has had the impact of yoga studies.  No other teacher has supported and challenged me so significantly.  I now have faith in myself and the teachings.  I am purposeful, powerful and peaceful amidst the changes of the world and life.”   –  Anna K

“The Yoga Studies program came at a pivotal time in my life.  Through it, I reconnected with my authentic self,  enabling me to find purpose in my life again. It gave me clarity and the strength to move forward. I now understand yoga with more depth and insight, and would highly recommend this program to others who are wanting “more” from their life.”    ~ Julie Ann C.

The Yoga Studies program with Ben Vincent literally changed my life.  I went into it with mixed feelings, not sure what to expect and a bit intimidated.  It turned out to be one of the most rewarding and impactful events I have ever participated in. I still practice, almost daily, many of the tools for a richer life that I learned in the program.”    ~ Audrey C.

“For me, the YS program was a profound and life-changing experience led by a profound and life-changing teacher.  I got a whole new set of tools to help me live my life joyfully and in harmony with my best self.  One of the unexpected benefits was developing a wonderfully supportive community of fellow yogis.  I highly recommend this class to anyone serious about cultivating both a deeper understanding of themselves and of yoga.”     ~ Beth G.

“I studied yoga for over fifteen years prior to taking part in the yoga studies program, and the program gave me a foundation and depth of understanding that I did not have from all of my previous study.  Ben is an intensely serious student of yoga and a gifted teacher. He is able to break down postures and anatomy, and has a unique ability to teach yoga as a philosophical system that can help us to shape a more meaningful and fulfilling life.”      ~ Katrin C.

I would like to thank you Ben for the time, effort, love and devotion that you have put into developing this extraordinary yoga studies program. The quality and depth of the program  was beyond my expectations and has provided me with a deep insight and inspiration for myown transformational process. I really appreciated your wisdom – the practices and teaching of yoga philosophy reflected the authenticity of your own practice. -Birgit K.

“After completing a teacher training program, I felt like something was missing… I needed more support.  I wanted to continue my studies and make sure that I was deepening my own relationship to yoga. I can’t express how life changing and powerful Yoga Studies has been.  It is a unique gem in the Yoga world – a powerfully transformative program, both in personal growth, and in deepening one’s connection to Yoga. I was given real tools to work through the limiting beliefs and negative patterns that had kept me stuck for years. Over the past nine months, I have solidified my commitment to daily yoga practice, I have deepened my knowledge and immediate connection to the teachings, and I have begun to unveil the potential that has always lived inside of me. Yoga Teacher Training taught me how to teach a class, Yoga Studies taught me how to live and how to embody Yoga.”  I am deeply grateful for this life changing experience and for Ben’s guidance. I believe without a doubt that YS has made me a better human, and a more authentic student of Yoga.   – Stefanie M
